When Alert Noise Hides the Real Signals

Noise reduction is not the same as deletion. The goal is to stop training responders to ignore queues while preserving the rare paths that matter during misuse.

Start with duplicates and overlapping rules that fire for the same underlying event. Then cluster false positives by theme—scanner chatter, known health checks, expected partner retries—before you touch high-severity routes.

Document every suppression. On-call engineers should know which stories the data can still tell at 2 a.m., and which questions require a temporary override.

The teams that sleep better are not the ones with empty inboxes; they are the ones who trust the alerts that remain.
